“The world may be mean, but people don't have to be, not if they refuse.” This book... had me... all the way f-ed up. A story that translates the metaphor of the underground railroad into a physical reality -- an actual train that runs underground, built by the hands of slaves, to take them to freedom. We follow Cora through her journey towards freedom, and each section of the book is a completely different world. There is no stopping. There is no moment to feel relief. There is always something more. It starts off slow, but stick through it -- even the painful bits, as this is a memorable read. I hope they turn this into a TV show one day.

“Any place you love is the world to you.” Another Oscar Wilde masterpiece, but this time in the form of a children's book. The stories are short, but packed to the brim with imagery and a sort of melancholy that triggered my heart strings. The magical stories he weaves were easy to read through, right before bed time, but I made myself read only one a night. Each story holds a completely different vibe, and that's what makes the collection so special.

“Open your eyes and see what you can with them before they close forever.” This novel is filled with beautiful lines like this one, that make you stop, drink it in, and let it simmer before wanting to move on. A story about a blind French girl in the midst of World War II, and a German boy with an obsession with radios. Their stories are separate, but intertwined, and that maze is what makes this book fascinating. It is hauntingly beautiful, and you can't help but wish that there were more character interactions within it.

“Do I love you? My God, if your love were a grain of sand, mine would be a universe of beaches.” Was I the only one who didn't know this movie originated from a novel? And a SPECTACULAR one at that! The comedy in this story is unmatched in the film, and I am so glad to have read the original writing. The movie did a great job capturing the love between the two main characters, but completely disregarded the depth of the supporting roles that are explored in the novel. I highly recommend this book to anyone (fan or not fan of the film, doesn't matter) as it is a fantastic comedy, fun adventure, and of course, sweet love story.
