“In the dark, you could never be too black. In the dark, everyone was the same color.” A quick read that was intriguing, but left me yearning for more. Bennett sets up characters in a quick fashion, allowing the reader to move through the plot first, as they slowly get to know more information about each character. In my opinion, this read almost like a prequel. I want to know what happens next, and how the plot affects the stories and the relationships that they built throughout this story. A fascinating story about two African American twin girls who grew up in a town where lightskinnedness is revered. They part ways, and the story follows their two different paths.

“Everyone is a part of a story, what they want is to be part of something worth recording” I will begin by naming that this is a "Inception" style book where reading it once will not bring you to full satisfaction. The twists and turns created are bound to have you scratching your head throughout, maybe even cursing the author and wanting to put the book down. But DON'T! Morgenstern creates a magical world within our real world that is titillating and seductive. A world where books and stories must be protected in an underground maze, the characters fight to save what is most important to them. Her characters are multifaceted and the story is a convoluted maze of events that has you flipping back and forth between pages trying to understand what is going on. This is a must-read for any book lover, as the theme of the entire story is loving books!

“He is half of my soul, as the poets say.” The heart-wrenching myth of Achilles and Patroclus is explored in this romantic and fast-paced novel by Madeline Miller. I picked up this book to read more about Greek Mythology, and I was hooked... The story moves through Patroclus and Achilles's friendship that dives into more over time. Their relationship blossoms in a way that you feel like you are intruding in private moments left and right. A great retelling of a classic story, and very steamy at times...!!

"Well I've got loads left, Oliver. I saved my words for you, Oliver." A completely mind-blowing dystopian play about our world if everyone had a 140 word limit on their speech every day. This surprisingly short story follows a couple back and forth through time as they reflect and try to navigate through this seemingly impossible restriction on their life. Although the writing wasn't overwhelmingly pulling, the concept was enough to keep me absorbed. You can easily finish this in one sitting, and it's the type of story that will lead to fantastic conversations afterwards.
